This week the UMFA will host two exciting, and very different, events.
On Wednesday, November 17, at 7 pm, students from the University of Utah School of Music will present live classical music performances in the museum’s galleries as part of the Chamber Music Series. Featuring a world premier performance of local composer Kevin Pace’s String Quartet No.1., as well as performances of pieces by Joseph Haydn and Felix Mendelssohn, the Chamber Music Series event will highlight musical works connected to specific paintings or themes on display in the UMFA’s permanent collection of European art. Subsequent Chamber Music Series performances will take place on December 8 and February 16 at 7 pm.
On Thursday, November 18 at 6 pm, the UMFA will host contemporary artist Sophie Whettnall for a free public conversation about her new exhibition, salt 2: Sophie Whettnall. A contemporary Belgian artist, Whettnall’s work encompasses photography, video, performance and installation art.
