Celebrating our Volunteers: Meet Lydia Owens

Volunteering your time can be an incredibly enriching experience, and we hope that all of our volunteers are able to grow through their training. Interns, specifically, seek professional experience that might one day further their careers, and the work they do to gain this advantage is beneficial to the UMFA, as well as to the interns. We can’t thank them enough!

What is your favorite thing about interning at the UMFA?
I like walking through the gallery to the office every morning. That’s really fun—walking through the Museum every day to go to work.

What is your favorite work of art at the Museum and why?
Right now, I really like the Robert Smithson Leaning Mirror but out of the permanent collection, there’s a really beautiful fresco in the Renaissance room that I really like. I like that it’s attached to the original wall—so it’s not just a work of art, it’s kind of a piece of architecture as well.
